Gator LogoVA Gators: The Most Practice Options, the Best Coaches, the Most Fun
Our goal with the Virginia Gators is to create a program that equips any and every kid with all the practice time, personal attention, and expert instruction they need to become better swimmers. All of this is wrapped around a total-team concept that emphasizes FUN. Kids and their parents develop life-long friendships as part of the Gator “Family,” a word we emphasize because it best describes the atmosphere within our program.

While our kids work hard in the pool—some extraordinarily hard—our program caters to kids of all levels of ability and commitment to the sport. Want to swim six times a week or more? We’ll be there for you. Want to swim once or twice a week and only for four months during the winter? That’s no problem. With the most practice options of any program in the Charlottesville area, we have a program that will meet any kid’s need and any family’s schedule.

BUBBLE DOWN - Water is Warm

The bubble is down and the normal practice schedule has resumed.  The water is still being heated...just bring a warm towel or your gator parka for after practice.

SWIM Performance Reporting System Online!

Thanks to Gator Parent, Bruce Telford, the informative Swimmer Profiles that you have been receiving before each swim meet are now available online.  These profiles generated by the SWIM Performance Reporting System help swimmers and their parents track progress throughout the season.  To see the Charlottesville Gators reports Click Here.

Team Shirts & Swim Parkas

T-shirts are in- please make sure that parents stop in the pool during practice to pick up the t-shirts that each swimmer gets for registering for Gators. Parents, if you have time, please consider helping out at the beginning or end of practice to facilitate this process for JJ, who will have the master list. A limited number of extras may be available for parents to purchase for $10.

Also, remember that we have Gator Towels for sale. One is hanging in the hallway of the pool for you to take a look at. Many swimmers have enjoyed them, especially when traveling to meets. They look great monogrammed (and that helps with keeping track of them too). Consider one as a Holiday Gift! One is $25, or get two for $45 (each is $20 thereafter). E-mail Lauren Williamson for orders and to arrange for delivery. Gator magnets are also available for $5.

We have an order for Gator Parkas going out soon too. If you would like a parka for your swimmer, please let us (JJ and/or Lynette Wuensch) know ASAP so that it can be included in the order, and we may be able to get it by the December meet in Roanoke (or in time for the holidays). They make great ideas for gifts from grandparents to give to your swimmers! Each parka is $115 (and includes monogramming). You will need to indicate size and the text/name for monogramming.

If you would be interested in Gator logo apparel for parents, please let Lauren. We are considering mens and womens styles of polo or dryweave(sport) shirts, if enough people are interested.

We Are Getting A New Pool

As you may have heard, the Virginia Gators of Charlottesville and Fairview Swim and Tennis Club are wanting to building a new pool.  Funding has been tough during this down economy.  Hope to have more info in the near future.
Summer Swim Registration

Swimmers who would like to go above and beyond what their JSL swim teams have to offer this summer, please speak with Coach JJ about participating in the GATOR Summer Swim program.  This program offers both early morning and evening practices.  Contact JJ via email or catch him at Fairview anytime.  If he has already told you he wants you there, click the button below to register and pay the $150 fee.

Fairview Railroad Bridge CLOSED

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced Friday that Route 651 (Free State Road) in Albemarle County will be closed to through traffic on Tuesday, May 25 for approximately three months.

Norfolk Southern Corp. plans a major rehabilitation of the one-lane timber deck bridge that is owned by the railroad.

VDOT officials say the road will be closed approximately one-tenth of a mile from Route 1428 (Huntington Road) and approximately four-tenths of a mile from the dead end of Free State Road. VDOT will place signs and barricades advising motorists of the closure, but Norfolk Southern will be responsible for the rehabilitation project.

You can get more information on real-time road conditions and weather forecasts on VDOT’s traffic and travel website.
